The Replacement Harmon Yard is a set of multistory contiguous buildings that have formed a "Wall".  Now all of the noises generated by the use of the Croton Station, Replacement Harmon Yard and trains transiting this area now echo off the wall filling our homes and valley with toxic Noise and Air Pollution.

Unless these problems are addressed swiftly and successfully they may decline. This will impact the school system and the community.

4. Is this really affecting my health?

We have heard from many people about the impact the noises are having on their physical and mental health. The symptoms they report are very similar. All consistent with exposure to noise pollution and infrasound. When these noises stops - many of their symptoms stop. It should be noted, that even if you can’t hear the sound and you live in the affected areas, the infrasound may still be harming you.

5. Are there any real solutions?

Yes, we know the noises can be silenced and the trains still run safely and on time.

6. What is the next step and how long will it take?

We need Metro North, MTA, CSX and Amtrak to acknowledge that they have created a serious problem that has to be fixed - Now!

7. What else can I do to help with the problem?

Go to the Take Action page and tell your officials that you and your community are being noise poisoned by the noises that are coming from the area in and around the Harmon Yard and the station and that they need to be stopped Now!!

8. Is there any way to get rid of the sound in my house?

No. Infrasound has to be stopped at the source. The additional noises may be lessened by sound proofing measures depending on the decibels and frequency. The goal is for our homes to be quiet and to be able to open the windows.

9. What is actually making the noise?

Any and all activity on the rails is contributing to the noise. The infrasound appears to originate from the locomotives that idle on the tracks. All other noises are from activity at the Croton Harmon Station as well as the trains that transit the area.

10. How many people do these noises affect?

Most residents in the Croton and Cortland area, Teatown and Briarcliff Manor appear to be affected by the reach of these noises. What is important to keep in mind is that although not everyone can "hear" infrasound, people are medically impacted by it even if they do not "hear" it.
